Verified Korean lunar dates for 2026 and 2027
Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) calendar data places lunar New Year’s Day on February 17, 2026 and February 7, 2027. Lunar month 8 day 15—Chuseok—falls on September 25, 2026 and September 15, 2027. The converter’s month starts and lengths for those years were cross-checked against KASI’s monthly solar-lunar table and 2026–2027 calendar datasets on October 22, 2026. KASI lists the datasets as generated July 25, 2024 and June 30, 2026, while noting that official publication status should be confirmed in its annual calendar notice.
Why a lunar birthday moves each year
A Korean lunar month contains 29 or 30 days, and 12 ordinary lunar months are about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year. Leap months keep the lunisolar calendar aligned with the seasons, so a lunar birthday usually moves earlier in the solar calendar and then jumps after an intercalation. Lunar month 8 day 15, for example, moves from September 25 in 2026 to September 15 in 2027. This tool converts the lunar date independently for each year rather than adding 365 days.
Leap-month birthdays and missing day 30
A regular month and a leap month with the same number are distinct months. Direct lunar-to-solar conversion rejects a leap-month selection when that year has no matching leap month. For the annual birthday pair, the displayed convention uses the matching leap month when one exists and the regular month of that number otherwise, with an explanation beside the date. If a requested day 30 falls in a 29-day month, the pair uses the month’s last day and labels the adjustment. Family customs differ, so use your family’s rule for an actual celebration or memorial.
Range, data source, and Korean-calendar boundary
This browser converter covers Gregorian 1900-01-31 through 2050-12-31 and Korean lunar 1900-01-01 through 2050-11-18. KASI’s own converter advertises a wider historical range ending in December 2050; this tool keeps to a modern table range that can run and be tested entirely in the browser. No entered date is sent to a conversion server. The displayed year ganji and zodiac turn over at Korean Lunar New Year, matching the lunar-year label in KASI tables. Four Pillars systems that use Ipchun as the year boundary can therefore show a different result for an early-February birth.
Frequently asked questions
What dates are Korean Lunar New Year and Chuseok in 2026?
KASI’s 2026 calendar data places Korean Lunar New Year, lunar 1/1, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Chuseok, lunar 8/15, is Friday, September 25, 2026. The listed holiday periods are February 16–18 and September 24–26.
When is my Korean lunar birthday in 2026 and 2027?
The solar date depends on the lunar month and day. Enter that lunar date in this converter to see both years together. For example, lunar 8/15 falls on September 25, 2026 and September 15, 2027.
What is a leap month in the Korean lunar calendar?
A leap month is an extra month inserted after a regular month to keep lunar months aligned with the seasons. Regular lunar 2/15 in 2023 was March 6, while leap 2/15 was April 5, so a leap-month marker in a family record materially changes the converted date.
When is a leap-month birthday celebrated in a year without that leap month?
There is no single family rule. This tool’s 2026–2027 birthday pair uses the regular month with the same number when the matching leap month does not exist and labels that fallback. Follow the family convention for an actual birthday or memorial.
What happens to a lunar birthday on day 30 in a 29-day month?
Korean lunar months contain either 29 or 30 days. When an annual birthday’s month ends on day 29, this tool uses that final day in the 2026–2027 pair and explicitly marks that day 30 was adjusted.
Does the Korean zodiac year change on January 1, Seollal, or Ipchun?
This converter changes the zodiac and year ganji at Seollal, when the Korean lunar year begins, matching KASI lunar tables. Some Four Pillars traditions use Ipchun instead, so an early-February birth can receive a different year pillar there.
