Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded — your personal best is saved only in this browser.

How to use

  1. Choose English or 한글, and a test length of 15, 30 or 60 seconds.
  2. Click the text box and start typing the sample shown above it — the timer starts on your first keystroke.
  3. Watch WPM (or 타수 for Korean) and accuracy update live as you type.
  4. When the time runs out, see your result, tier and personal best for this test length.
  5. Press Restart or Esc to try again with a fresh sample.

How WPM and accuracy are calculated

Words per minute uses the standard convention: one "word" equals five typed characters, so "a 25-character line" counts as 5 words regardless of actual word boundaries. Only correctly typed characters count toward speed — a typo does not inflate your score, but it is still counted against accuracy, which is correct characters divided by all characters you typed (correct and incorrect). Characters you have not reached yet are ignored entirely. If you finish the sample text before time runs out, your result is still calculated from the time you actually spent, so very fast typists are scored fairly too.

Why pasting is blocked and Korean input just works

Pasting the sample defeats the point of a typing test, so paste is disabled in the input box — you have to actually type it. For Korean, the box reads the native input value the browser already assembles from your IME, instead of intercepting individual keydown events. That avoids a known class of bugs where fast jamo composition (e.g. ㅘ, ㄺ, ㅆ) gets dropped or miscounted by typing tests that try to rebuild Hangul composition themselves.

What counts as a good typing speed

For English, casual typing is usually around 40 WPM, 60 WPM or higher is considered a strong typist, and 80+ WPM is fast for most people — professional typists can exceed 100 WPM. These are the benchmarks the tier shown after each test is based on.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good WPM score?

Around 40 WPM is typical for everyday typing. 60 WPM or higher is a strong typist, and 80+ WPM is fast — professional typists and transcriptionists often type 100+ WPM.

Does this typing test save or upload anything I type?

No. The sample text and your keystrokes are never sent anywhere — everything is scored in your browser. Only your personal-best number (not the text) is saved in this browser so you can track progress across visits.

Why is my WPM lower than other typing test sites?

Sites differ in whether typos reduce your WPM directly or only your accuracy. Here, speed is based only on characters you typed correctly, so a few mistakes you don’t go back and fix will show up as lower accuracy rather than a lower WPM — which can read differently from a site that penalizes speed for every error.

Can I practice typing in Korean here?

Yes — switch Language to 한글 to type Korean sentences. Korean results are shown as 타수 (keystrokes per minute), counted at the jamo level the way Korean typing software does, not simply by syllable count.

Why is pasting disabled in the typing box?

Pasting the sample text would let you "finish" instantly without typing anything, which defeats the purpose of measuring typing speed. You need to type the characters yourself for a result to be recorded.
