How this coin flip stays 50/50
Each flip reads one unsigned 32-bit value from the browser Web Crypto API. Values from 0 through 2,147,483,647 select the first side; values from 2,147,483,648 through 4,294,967,295 select the second. That gives each side exactly 2,147,483,648 possible values, without using a remainder operation that could introduce modulo bias. The result is a software random choice, not proof for legal, gambling, prize, or other high-stakes decisions.
Why streaks are normal
A fair flip has no memory: the chance of Heads is still 1 in 2 after any prior sequence. A specified run of five Heads has probability (1/2)^5 = 1/32, or 3.125%. A tally does not need to be exactly even to be fair; in 100 independent 50/50 flips, exactly 50 first-side results occur only about 7.96% of the time.
What is saved
The two labels, current tally, and latest 12 results are saved only in this browser’s local storage so a refresh does not erase a decision session. Reset tally removes the results. Browser-private mode or cleared site data can prevent or remove that saved state.
Frequently asked questions
Is this online coin flip fair?
Each flip divides the 4,294,967,296 possible unsigned 32-bit Web Crypto values into two equal sets of 2,147,483,648, so both outcomes have a 50% chance when the browser random source is working correctly.
Does a streak change the next coin flip?
No. Every result is generated independently, so the next flip remains 50% for each side even after several identical results in a row.
How many coin flips does this tool remember?
This tool keeps the 12 most recent flips and their cumulative tally in local browser storage until you select Reset tally or clear the site’s browser data.
Can I use choices other than heads and tails?
Yes. Enter any two short labels, such as Yes and No or two meal choices, and the tool applies the same 50/50 selection to them.
