How to use

  1. Paste the text that has unwanted line breaks.
  2. Leave “PDF copy cleanup” selected to keep blank-line paragraphs and list items.
  3. Choose Space, Nothing, or Custom when each line break needs a different replacement.
  4. Check the live result, then copy it or use Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + C when focus is outside a text field.

Why PDF copy-paste creates broken lines

A PDF describes where glyphs appear on a page; it does not always preserve the paragraph structure that a word processor uses. When a reader copies a narrow column, the end of each visible row can arrive as a real line break. Replacing every break with one space restores running prose, but it can also erase intentional paragraph boundaries. This tool treats one or more blank lines as a paragraph boundary when “Keep blank-line paragraphs” is on.

That rule is deliberately mechanical: if the source PDF has no blank line between its paragraphs, there is no reliable structural signal to recover. Review the live output and insert a paragraph break where the source did not preserve one.

Use the replacement that matches your destination

Space is the safe default for prose: “first line” followed by “second line” becomes “first line second line”. Nothing is useful for identifiers, phone numbers or URLs that were wrapped in the middle. Custom joins a copied column with a separator such as “, ” or “ | ”. The tool recognizes CRLF (Windows), CR (older Mac), LF (Unix), and Unicode line-separator characters before applying the same rule.

For PDF copy, the preset also rejoins a hyphen only when a Latin letter before the break is followed by a lowercase Latin letter, so “infor-” plus “mation” becomes “information” while “well-” plus “Known” stays unchanged.

Lists need different treatment from prose

Bulleted lines and numbered steps use line breaks as their structure. With list protection enabled, a line beginning with -, *, •, or a number followed by . or ) remains on a separate line. A preceding sentence is therefore not accidentally joined to its first list item. This is a pattern check, not document understanding: indented source text, tables and code may need manual review after cleanup.

Everything is transformed in the browser as you type or paste. The optional saved draft lives in this browser’s local storage only; Clear removes it from the tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool upload my text?

No. Line-break cleanup runs in your browser and the text is not sent to a server. The draft is stored only in this browser’s local storage so it can survive a refresh; Clear removes that saved draft.

How do I remove PDF line breaks but keep paragraphs?

Paste the PDF text and use the PDF copy cleanup preset. It changes single line breaks inside a paragraph to spaces, while one or more blank lines become one blank-line paragraph boundary in the result.

Can I remove every line break without adding spaces?

Yes. Choose Nothing to delete every removable line break. This is appropriate for a number, URL or identifier split over two lines, but ordinary words can run together if their original line ending did not include a space.

Which line endings does the remover recognize?

The remover normalizes Windows CRLF, Unix and modern macOS LF, classic Mac CR, and the Unicode line and paragraph separators before it cleans the text. CRLF counts as one line break, not two.

Will it fix every hyphenated word from a PDF?

It rejoins an end-of-line hyphen only when the next line begins with a lowercase English letter. That safely repairs common splits such as “infor-” plus “mation”, while leaving uppercase continuations and non-Latin text for review.
