One file — split it into as many parts as you like
Your PDF is split on your device. Nothing is uploaded; available browser memory is the only practical limit.
How to use
- Drop in a PDF, or click to choose one from your device.
- Choose Range to type specific pages, or Every N pages to cut the document into equal chunks.
- In Range mode, type something like "1-3, 5, 8-10" — turn on "Split each page into its own file" to get one PDF per page instead of per range.
- Check the result list, then click Download — one output downloads as a PDF, two or more download together as a ZIP.
How splitting works here
Type page numbers and ranges separated by commas — "1-3, 5, 8-10" produces three files by default: pages 1–3, page 5, and pages 8–10, each named after the pages it contains (for example, "report_p1-3.pdf"). Turn on "Split each page into its own file" and the same input instead produces one file per page, so "1-3, 5, 8-10" becomes five single-page PDFs. The "Every N pages" mode skips typing altogether and cuts the document into equal consecutive chunks — useful for breaking up a long scan into fixed-size pieces. Repeating a page creates distinctly named files, so no part is lost in the ZIP. Every page keeps its original text, images and resolution; nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed.
Nothing leaves your device
iLovePDF, Smallpdf and PDF24 all require uploading the PDF to their servers before it can be split. Smallpdf and PDF24 both state copies are auto-deleted only after one hour, so the file sits on a third-party server in the meantime — PDF24 explicitly processes files on a server in Germany. This tool reads and splits the file entirely in your browser using a small PDF library loaded on the page; your document and every resulting part never cross the network, which matters for contracts, transcripts, IDs or anything else you wouldn't want sitting on someone else's server, even briefly.
Large PDFs stay in your browser
This tool does not impose a file-size or page-count limit before processing. A large PDF still needs enough memory for the source and finished download, so splitting a long image scan into fewer, larger ranges is more reliable than creating hundreds of one-page files. Reading, splitting and ZIP preparation run in a browser worker; progress is shown for every finished part, and you can cancel without losing the source file. ZIP entries are added one at a time instead of retaining a second full set of output PDFs in the page.
Password-protected PDFs
A PDF encrypted with an open or permissions password can't be split here yet — it's flagged as "password-protected" right after you drop it in, rather than failing silently partway through. Remove the password in a PDF reader first, then re-add the file.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDF files uploaded anywhere?
No. Reading the file, parsing the ranges, and building each output PDF all happen in your browser. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Can I extract just a few specific pages from a PDF?
Yes. In Range mode, type the pages or ranges you want, such as "1-3, 5, 8-10" — only those pages are included in the output files, and anything not listed is left out entirely.
How do I split a PDF into one file per page?
Switch to Range mode, enter the full range (it is filled in automatically as "1-N" when the file loads), and turn on "Split each page into its own file" — you get one single-page PDF per page, downloaded together as a ZIP.
Is there a limit on file size or number of pages?
This tool does not set a file-size or page-count limit. The practical ceiling is available browser memory, because the source PDF and finished PDF or ZIP must fit on your device; for a very large scan, choose fewer and larger page ranges.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not yet. A PDF locked with a password is detected immediately and shown as "password-protected" instead of being split; remove the password in a PDF reader first, then add the file again.
Do I get a ZIP file or separate PDFs?
If your settings produce exactly one output file, it downloads directly as a PDF. If they produce two or more, all of them download together in a single ZIP file.
